THe vision
Rescue Sector Innovations mission is to identify and create purposeful products to improve firefighter safety, to support standards of practice, and ultimately to elevate the fire profession as a whole.
Rescue Sector Innovations was envisioned by Peterborough Firefighter, Cullen Groome, in response to an identified safety concern over the way in which power hand tools, attachments, and lithium-ion batteries were stored on fire apparatus, Ie) in bins, bags or PACKOUTS making them susceptible to impact damage during transport and difficult to efficiently access on-scene.
Moreover, the lack of organization stood out in stark contrast to the streamlined precision of the rest of the fire apparatus and its contents, contributing a sense of disorganized unprofessionalism.
In response, Cullen designed and pursued the patent for Rescue Sector Innovations’ inaugural product, SwiftGrid, to protect power hand tools systems from potential damage during transport, to aid in their rapid on-scene deployment, and to facilitate efficient post-call readiness checks.
Cullen brings over 15 years of firefighting experience and currently serves as an Acting Captain with Peterborough Fire. With training in welding and fabrication and 15 years of carpentry experience, he was well positioned to develop a practical solution.
